    Hillary's BBQ in Lake Bluff (near 41 & 176) is now Nardo's.

Their slogan is "Come for the sauce, stay for the ribs", which loosely translates to "Maybe the fried chicken is good"

Saw that and noticed the building is taller and closer to the road than the Wendy's next door. Will be very difficult to see the Wendy's when coming from the east.

Also, a Longhorn Steakhouse is being built at the corner of Touhy and McCormick (where the Mariano's is also being built and some other building(s)).

Hi- That Walmart has a Burger King housed in the store too. I personally prefer Wendy's as opposed to Burger King or McDonald's. It will be interesting to see if business picks up at the Wendy's because of Walmart or not. I personally don't think that M Burger is going to hurt Wendy's business that much because they are more upscale, and probably a lot more money.

    7 Lions, 130 S. Michigan

Big sign up with the place's name on it. Exhaustive research lead me at first to the conclusion that the hiphop band of the same name was opening their own store a la Prince, but no: it's the new Alpana Singh place. Opening scheduled for later this year, maybe. Will feature New American Comfort Food or something like that.

But I think it really needs to rise that to level.

Bill Borneman, an investor in Lake Forest, said he acquired eight HomeMade Pizza locations and some of the defunct company's equipment in July. The purchase came shortly before he opened his first take-and-bake pizza store, called Bake 425, in Highland Park in August, which he had been developing for several months.

From my post here on Bake 425 on 8/31:

A cursory Google searched reveals it is based in White Plains, NY, and that there was another location in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, which opened in 2011. . .and which is now closed. Same logo, very similar menu. Weird.

    Bulletins as events warrant.

    Getting weirder, too.

Well, that was fast, five months to be specific. From the Laughing Bird Facebook page:

    "Hi friends!
After 5 wonderful months in Lincoln Square, the owners of Laughing Bird have received a generous offer on the business and location...and, have decided to take it! Thank you all for your support and business!
Chef Chrissy will be moving on to pursue an exciting new concept of her own. Expect to see pop-up previews in the coming months. She will also be spending time working with some of the farmers and artisans that she has been building relationships with for the last few years and volunteering at the Red Door Animal Shelter.
    Thank you again!"

And under comments, in response to a question if the restaurant is closed, Laughing Bird wrote, "Yes, Saturday was our last day."

DeVine has been closed for at least a year now. In fact another restaurant concept from the Pasadita group has already come and gone in that same space.

And while the windows are still papered over, the DeVine sign is back up as if they're going to make another go...

And yet another twist in the saga of this location... the DeVine sign is gone again and in its place is a sign for Burgers and Barley Pop, apparently open since mid-August. Early reviews suggest they better get their sht together quickly if they hope to outlast the previous occupant.

I went to Burgers and Barley pop and was underwhelmed. It's fine. I like the space. Can't remember what I ordered. I don't think I'll return, because they have an absurd, infuriating way of asking how you want your burger cooked: "pink or no pink?" I didn't even know what the hell she was saying. The question seemed to come out of nowhere. "What can I get you?" "X Burger." "Pink or no pink?" Bah.

The Marquette Building on Adams will soon be home to an upscale concept from a Zed 451 management vet. Scheduled for a soft opening on or around the weekend of October 10, The Marq, a contemporary American bistro with global influences, is designed to appeal to the Loop's after-work crowd in a casual 150-seat space.

An independent spot offering sandwiches from around the world is opening today in downtown Oak Park. 7 Sandwich Shop takes its name from the seven continents of the world, which it plans to represent in sandwiches, from the Cuban (slow-roasted pork, forest ham, shaved pickle, mustard and Swiss cheese on a telera roll) to the Thai beef roll (marinated sirloin, lemongrass ginger, green onion, carrot-peanut salad on a sesame roll).
