Actually, one would be a sufganiyah. Sufganiyot is plural, and is the more common spelling (although it's a transliteration of the Hebrew so you can spell it in English however you want). One sufganiyah, or several sufganiyot.
I've never seen them at Kaufman's, not even in my several visits since they re-opened (even though I've seen some other baked goods recently that they never had before). Maybe they only had them during Hannukah, but I didn't see them then either. (They are supposedly traditional for Hannukah, but if so, they're not all that well known.)
You also won't find donuts at Sweetie Pie's, although they have croissants and cupcakes as well as pies. Or, they will when they get back from vacation.
Bennison's is in Evanston, so it's not precisely in the towns mentioned, but close by. Their donuts are quite good. Some of their more unusual donuts include "long johns" with a strip of bacon on top, and also flavored cake donuts, including pumpkin donuts and red velvet donuts.

Also there is a polish bakery on Milwaukee, Oak Mill Bakery which should have doughnuts as well...
Delightful Pastries is on Lawrence just south of Niles, and they too usually have pączki. (Pączki is plural, pączek is the singular; one pączek, or several pączki.)
