Dollop Coffee Company, which has opened several other locations in the city, and Hoosier Mama Pie Company will open a coffee shop and production bakery at 1844 S. Blue Island Ave. The new joint venture, which will carry both brand names, will open in the former El Nopal Bakery.

I was at the final night of Lovell's on Sunday. Sad to see it go, but the north shore can always use another medical building. I believe that the auction is next wednesday, but none of the space memorabilia will be available.

I live next door. Remodeling is putting it lightly. The gutted the entire place, only thing left standing is the steel beams.

Holy cow, have you seen what they're putting up in its place? That has to be the most ballin' White Castle I've ever seen, and it's not even done yet. It's almost enough to trick you into thinking the food served within might be worth ordering.

I had a nice dinner at the Glenview Pita Inn last night and while waiting for my food I engaged in a conversation with one of the long time cooks. I had asked when the new Skokie location was going to open, he did not know exact date , but said it was suppose to open late April. I had said so I assume they will close the original location in Skokie and to my surprise he said they will keep that open and they will add a breakfast menu. He did not have any specifics on the menu.

Since so many of you shared your enthusiasm about wanting Gus's in your neighborhood, here are the 2015 openings...
    Atlanta, GA

    Los Angeles, CA
    Ft. Worth, TX
    Knoxville, TN
    Kansas City, KS
    Chicago, IL

There are more to come, but we have to take it slow to ensure you get the same quality and experience you have come to expect from Gus's World Famous Fried Chicken! As we progress, we will be sure to share locations and opening dates.

Gus's is probably my favorite fried chicken ever and I eat there almost every time I'm in Memphis (which is at least once a month for work), but I still don't know how I feel about this. I've eaten at most of the 'branches' in Memphis, and I don't feel quality suffers much at all, so i guess I'm hopeful.

I searched google and could not find any other info on location or date.

That is good news. We miss the Silk Mandarin. The various Chinese carryout places around just aren't the same.

The article says there'll also be two (?) new restaurants moving into the building vacated by Famous Dave's, which we also miss.

Based on the comments in that article (as well as on Yelp), the problems seem to stem far more from poor service than the location itself.

And as noted in the link, the city did not invest in the restaurant; it only provided financing in the form of a loan, which the owners are continuing to pay off.
