Hong Kong soup by jordanhojati, on Flickr

My boss is in Hong Kong and sent me this picture. I want it now and can think of nothing else. Where can I get it in Chicago? I believe he got it at a place featured when bourdain was in HK.

    Any help is appreciated!

GNR Sun Wah may have something very close. Their won ton soup in its various incarnations always cures my Jones for this type of soup.

Thanks for the tip - I was thinking Chinatown would be my best bet, but I've only seen relatively standard wonton soup (which I really like at both Go 4 Food and Lao Sze Chuan), but haven't seen anything like this.

I would take the picture to Milo at Go 4 Food--he seems to really enjoy experimenting with new dishes and this might be a fun project for him. Couldn't hurt!! And the dish looks really delicious so keep us posted on the results of your quest!

Sun Wah offers both a wonton soup (which I think is terrific) and a soup with fish balls (not sure if those are fish or fish & pork balls in your picture), which I've never tried. If they're fish balls, I'll bet you could get Sun Wah to combine the two soups (and of course add rice stick noodles and bean sprouts, chives I think . . . can't tell what else . . . could be pork, dried shrimp . . . )

Also, Hon Kee on Argyle offers the same soups, and specifically mentions rice noodles. I don't recall that Sun Wah's wonton soup came with rice noodles, but I haven't had it for a while. And BBQ King on Archer in Chinatown also seems to offer a couple of very similar sounding soups: http://www.bbqkingonline.com/menu.html

I've generally focused on some of the Hong Kong-style restaurants in town . . . likely your best bet.

Looks like a Hong Kong version of Mish-Mosh soup - I see the Asian equivalents of matzoh balls and kreplach, plus noodles. Yum!
