I've seen a couple of threads about Vienna products found outside of Chicagoland (1, 2), but there didn't seem to be a central spot for this info. A Chicago-style hot dog place even opened here in Charlottesville, VA, trafficking in skinless Vienna hot dogs, though it closed before I moved back (it's not a big hot dog town)

    ----

I was recently in Coronado, California and walked past a place called Delux - a hot dog and hamburger joint. Being on Orange Ave. in Coronado, not Western Ave in Chicago, it looked quite a bit different than the hot dog stands I came to love during my time in Chicago. I would have kept walking, had I not seen the Vienna logo displayed. Vienna hot dog on a resort island off the coast of San Diego? Sign me up.

Though I didn't have time to eat, I ran in, asked the lady at the counter if they were skinless or natural casing Vienna dogs. She checked and let me know they were natural casing! Winner, winner, weiner!

The next day I came back and ordered a dog with mustard, onions, and sport peppers (neon relish on offer, but not my thing). Sadly, this was a skinless dog. Tasty, but disappointing.

As JimInLoganSquare once pointed out, it could be construed as a means of self-defense. Though that would seem less effective in Coronado than in Chicago.

Hank's Haute Dogs here in Honolulu uses Vienna hot dogs. That should probably be expected though since the owner is Henry Adaniya, the founder and owner of Trio. I believe they use natural casing dogs, but I haven't actually been in to try one myself yet. Chicago-style dogs are one of the primary offerings, but there are a variety of options with more unusual toppings as well.

Probably not as funny without the full context of the story (and great pics) but still a banner quote to me!!

Vienna Beef's website has a locator to find all Vienna Hot Dog joints across the country and you will be surprised how many.

There are a few places here in the Twin Cities to get a Vienna dog and checking the locator link above I found a few more that I didn't know existed. One place that uses Vienna dogs that isn't listed but is worth a stop is Tilia. More of a gastro-pub style restaurant, they do serve some dogs.
