I quickly ran in Bari Market yesterday to pick up a few pounds of Barese sausage yesterday and noticed a building permit in D'Amato's window and a sign saying something to the effect "we're still open across the street". There is in fact a newly opened store across the street.
I was parked illegally, and in a hurry to blanch my rapini and put dinner together, otherwise I would have tried to investigate further. Has anyone heard anything? Doesn't/didn't D'Amato's have just about the last coal fired oven left in Chicago? I remember a recent Tribune article on their coal deliveries. I'll probably investigate further tomorrow. What a shame it wouuld be to lose those great breads.
