I felt like cheese-stuffed, battered and fried flor de calabaza, but I didn't come across any in a few stops. Instead, I got a large can of blossoms at Jimenez Carniceria (Fullerton near Pulaski).

Here they are, drained, battered (egg-based) and fried, with grated Chihuahua cheese and Fiesta's very good ensalada de nopales (cactus salad).

There were (small) platic zip loc bags full of fresh ones at Cermak Produce at Cicero and Diversey on Saturday. They also had a shipment of fresh favas.

The Cermak Produce at the northwest corner of Cicero and Diversey (two standard blocks south of Wellington) also had squash blossoms when we stopped in on July 2. I have not seen any squash blossoms at the much larger Cermak Produce store at 4234 North Kedzie, though. We shop there frequently, and I looked very carefully when we were in there on Wednesday. The Kedzie store has a more diverse clientele (albeit with a lot of Mexicans) and carries many products that the Diversey and Cicero store couldn't possibly fit in but apparently no squash blossoms.
