When we lived in Andersonville, I could walk to the Middle East Bakery on Foster. I could always be assured of high quality and more often than not, it was still warm. We've been in northwest Evanston for about five years now and I'm tired of experimenting with everything I can find. So I ask you a very simple question: where can I find good, (reasonably) fresh pita without having to shlep back into the city? There must be somewhere nearby that makes it fresh and knows how to make it.

I presume that there is a simple answer to this question and that I have overlooked the obvious, but I haven't figured it out yet. I know we were spoiled by the lovely folks on Foster but it shouldn't be this hard.

If you're a fan of Pita Inn, their location on Dempster is probably where you'll have the easiest access. And they also sell it out of their bakery/market, which is next door to their former location -- even a bit further east on Dempster. I hope that helps.

Pita Inn's bakery is about it for fresh. Not that far.

You could probably order some to go from Larsa's if you like a thinner style of pita.

Naf naf grill sells Pita to go. A little expensive though, 6 pack for 4 bucks.

There's always Marketplace on Oakton, too. Not baked on site, but frequently still warm.

Thanks all. It honestly never occurred to me that Pita Inn would sell them (or Naf Naf, for that matter). We've tried Marketplace on Oakton but must be picking the wrong brand(s); and although Larsa's is in our regular delivery rotation, neither of us has ever been all that thrilled with their pitas. Thanks for the suggestions.

I'm not a huge fan of Pita Inn's pitas but occasionally we grab food from the bakery for work and the pitas are almost always still warm -- to the point where steam forms inside the plastic bag in which they're packed. So . . . the fresh they definitely are.
