Does anyone know about any specific groceries, like the physical address? . . . I live near Western Avenue and Chicago Avenue so the closest would be preferable but I am willing to go the extra mile.
Closest — Good quality smoked ham hocks should be available at any Polish deli. Others have suggested locations but the closest to you is probably
Rich's Deli, only steps from Western & Chicago. It's a good place to buy beer and lots of other stuff too.
The extra mile — It's probably too far for frequent visits but
Tennessee Country Meats in Gary has the area's best selection of Southern ingredients (I'd love to hear of any better). They have serve-yourself tubs of smoked hocks, tails, neck bones etc as well as salt pork (regular and aged) and salted ribs. You'll also find a selection of specialty flours and grits, pickles and chow chow, as well as a nice variety of frozen beans and peas. Not to mention an impressive array of
bright red sausages (you can also see some of their cured meats in the linked photo).
