Cutout Cookie Question

I'm making cookies for a friend this weekend, but it's going to be hot and already I'm feeling lazy. I planned on making orange, lemon, and lime dough for three separate cookie flavors. The lime is a slice & bake recipe. The lemon and orange seem to be basic rolled doughs that you cut out with cutters. Can this type of dough also be rolled into a log and sliced instead? That would also be cuter if I could get colored coarse sugar and roll the logs before cutting so the edges are decorated instead of the centers. Any advice would be nice!

The dough for rolled cookies is usually a bit softer and therefore wouldn't cut well from a log shape. But, you can experiment. Take your dough, put it on plastic wrap and use the wrap to help you form your log. Chill it well and slice with a VERY sharp knife or thin wire. You'll see if it works. Better yet, freeze the dough and then slice it.
