I picked up half a pound of fresh dates at Mitsuwa @$3.49/lb. I'd never seen these in a store before so I was excited to investigate. They look and taste a little different than the examples I found on Google-- they're brown, unwrinkled, crisp and mildly sweet, not astringent.

I'm happy just to eat them like tiny apples, but do any of you do anything else with them?

I think they taste nice minced up in salads or as a garnish for just about anything.

Marketplace on Oakton regularly has fresh dates on sale. I think the're usually labeled "Chinese Dates".

I had a Chinese date in college once. We didn't really hit it off.

Salads-- great idea. They'd be so cute cut into quarters. I'll have to get some more of those.
