Oh, the spirit of Paula Deen was smiling on me this week. On Sunday, I took a trip out to Golden Geurnsey Dairy http://www.iloverawmilk.com/default.html out in Glen Ellyn with a friend so she could pick up some raw milk to make cheese. It had been decades since I'd had really fresh from the farm milk (my parents relatives were all dairy farmers so as I child, I'd had my share of it straight from the pail). Oh my goodness, how a person can forget just how GOOD fresh milk tastes.

The family couldn't be nicer and we got to meet Rick and a couple of his kids and they told us about the cows and their small operation.

The milk was a bargain (about $1/pint). I came home with five which was enough to drink this week, plus enough to make my own buttermilk for a killer chocolate cake and, of course, my own butter.

Some of the yellowest, yummiest sweet butter I've had in an age.

    YUM.

My first Melrose Peppers of the season roasted in a cast iron skillet. Some were marinated in barolo vinegar and EVOO and some were mixed w/ sauteed onion on a saaaasage (Mark Malnati said to say it this way via Throwdown on FN yesterday) sandwich. Nice.

Peanut butter mousse/chocolate mousse cake with chocolate graham/peanut crust.

Thought this was a big hit at the party I went to yesterday, it was too sweet for my personal taste. I think if I made it again, I'd replace the cookie crust with a chocolate (or possibly almond) sponge/biscuit and perhaps spoon the mousses (meeses?) into shot glasses, so that even though it's very sweet, you wouldn't consume as MUCH after an already enormous dinner.

    But it looked pretty.

Glad to hear! Here's a link to their website. If you're ever up in the Fennville area, a place called Summertime Market in Douglas sells it retail. Or you can arrange a trade-off with me, as I'm up there every two weeks or so. :)

Though I haven't been, I recommended Bo Innovation in Hong Kong to a friend based on what I read here on LTH. She sent me a photo of one of her courses, Sex on the Beach--brandy mousse, graham cracker, edible condom with condensed milk. Money from sales of this dish go to benefit an HIV/AIDS organization, hence the small chocolate (?) with red ribbon.
