Oh, the spirit of Paula Deen was smiling on me this week. On Sunday, I took a trip out to Golden Geurnsey Dairy
http://www.iloverawmilk.com/default.html out in Glen Ellyn with a friend so she could pick up some raw milk to make cheese. It had been decades since I'd had really fresh from the farm milk (my parents relatives were all dairy farmers so as I child, I'd had my share of it straight from the pail). Oh my goodness, how a person can forget just how GOOD fresh milk tastes.
The family couldn't be nicer and we got to meet Rick and a couple of his kids and they told us about the cows and their small operation.
The milk was a bargain (about $1/pint). I came home with five which was enough to drink this week, plus enough to make my own buttermilk for a killer chocolate cake and, of course, my own butter.
Some of the yellowest, yummiest sweet butter I've had in an age.
YUM.
