I find it odd that there doesn't seem to be a investigation of the sanitation practices of the sandwich places; after all, if there are no contaminated sprouts anywhere but Jimmy John's, shouldn't they be checking what happens to the sprouts once they get to the sandwich places?

The likelihood that there was simultaneous contamination at multiple locations of the same restaurant in a number of states is next to nil. They may share common distribution, so that's a possibility, but at store level, not likely.

Distribution would be where I would look...I can't imagine that the sprouts go directly from the supplier to the restaurants.

However, sprouts are tricky, can go off at any time, and I'm willing to believe the FDA...but I hope they are doing more than just adding up the numbers.

According to this report, the FDA did do some on-site testing.

Gills Onions recalled 2,360 pounds of diced red onions because of possible listeria contamination, the California-based company said Saturday.

The recalled onions were distributed to retailers in Canada and retailers and distributors in California, Oregon, Washington, Arizona, Idaho, Texas, Illinois, Michigan, Arkansas, Ohio, Tennessee, New Jersey, Georgia and Florida.

Never buying prechopped onions, I am glad I have little to fear.
