Important announcement for anyone who is planning to attend. I just received an e-mail this morning about the event:
"Dear friends and supporters of the Tibetan Alliance of Chicago:
We have received an urgent directive from Tibetan Government in Exile, Dharamsala, urging every Tibetan organization not to celebrate Losar this year because of the situation in Tibet. Accordingly, we regret to inform you that we have to make some changes to the February 20, 2010 Program emailed to you earlier.
The Losar celebration is cancelled, as there would be signs of festivity associated with Losar on February 20, 2010. In other words, there will be no usual Tibetan traditional dances and songs. Instead, we will hold this event as “Friends and Supporters of Tibetan Alliance Appreciation Night”. We will do a video screening of "Educating the Heart" talk given by His Holiness the Dalai Lama at Madison, Wisconsin (May 2008)."
The e-mail goes on but this was the pertinent part. After re-reading the e-mail, it seems clear that there WILL still be dinner that evening. But for those looking forward to the cultural portion of the evening, that has been cancelled. I'm sorry. We'll have to hope for positive developments from the region and look forward to celebrating with song and dance next year.
