Lunch at Khan BBQ - Tuesday September 11

Hi all,

I doubt I need to pitch this one very hard . . .

It's been a few weeks and I'm absolutely jonesing for some GNR-nominated Khan BBQ. Would anyone care to meet there for lunch this coming Tuesday? They open at 12:30 pm and that's when I'll be there. If you'd like to partake, please post below and let me know how many you'll be.

Wow, lunch at Khan's on September 11.... Getting that out of the way, how much do you think a meal'll be per person? I'd be very interested in attending.

I'd originally planned for 9/13 but that's Rosh Hashana

Depending on how many things we order, my guess is that it'll be between $10 and $15 per person, all in.

I hope you can make it.

I would love to come, my husband dislikes Indian food, so we never go out for it.

I would love to -- and will do so -- but I can't do it before the GNR nomination period ends on 9/15. Unbelievably, every night between now and then is pretty much booked up

I'm sorry you won't be able to join us for this meal.

There's nothing stopping you from just going on your own, or organizing your own dinner. I highly recommend Kahn and you should make it a point to check it out.

Thanks, everyone, for a very enjoyable lunch. It was great getting together for a mid-day chat and chomp. I don't know exactly what it is about Khan but it always scratches the itch just perfectly. Today was no exception and the company was even better than the food.

Great lunch--I didn't even notice the lack of waffles. Once again for me, the chicken boti was the star of the food show, with a strong following by broasted chicken and frontier chicken w/rice. Even the biryani, which I thought was too dry the last time I had it, was more moist today (though it's still no match on ingredients to the better Hyderabad biryanis I've had in the neighborhood in the past.)

The lunchtime ambiance at Khan's was noticeably more laid-back than the dinnertime rush I've experienced there in the past--if you have the option of going earlier in the afternoon, as we did, I'd recommend it.

Of course, It's always so much more enjoyable sharing a bunch of dishes with fine companions. Also nice to now be able to associate faces with kafeine (Liz) and gp60004 (Gus).

In my growing-up-in-flea-market-broasted-chicken past, I never imagined how good broasted chickencould be! Clearly, "carefully marinated and coated with specially formulated Broaster ingredients" isn't the real secret!

I wasn't coordinated enough to put together a proper luncheon announced on the board, but recruited on short notice a number of known Khan B.B.Q. fans and went to Devon today to finally give an award to a resident of one of Chicago's greatest ethnic food streets and scenes. This was one of those times that it takes a little explaining just what we're up to here, but I gave him the short version of my nominating post, about how we loved and talked about his restaurant and followed it through the sadness of the fire and the happiness of his reopening, and once Mr. Khan and his staff got it they seemed genuinely touched to be honored by hungry total strangers such as ourselves.


Mhays misunderstood that it was a costume GNR presentation.


The new second room at Khan. It's amazing to think this is what the tiny, cramped, smoke-filled Khan of two years ago has become. (Plus, they have real bathrooms now that don't require going downstairs, down a hall, and past the prayer room.)


As always, meats were sizzlingly spicy and wonderful, vegetable dishes were pretty good (the spinach one, palak paneer, was especially good with a nice earthy undertone), and a good time was had by all.
