    LTH:

Please join me for dinner at GNR nominee, a tavola, on Wednesday October 8th at 6:30 pm.* [Relevant thread is here.]

Depending upon interest, perhaps arrangements can be made to set up a family-style meal with antipasto, a couple of types of pasta, and then main meat courses (such as short rib, lamb, beef and/or chicken). Any ordering off the fantastic and reasonably-priced wine list will be done and tallied separately.

All are welcome, past fans and/or newbies alike!

*For those concerned, this is an off-day between MLB Division and Championship playoff series.

*Edited to reflect time change per request of restaurant.

First time eventers are the best. This is a good a time as ever to get your feet wet (or stomach fed)!

    I'll put you down +1.

Very safe. Where are you coming from? The easiest mode of public transportation would be the #66 bus which runs along Chicago Avenue.

Stevez- glad you're coming. I'll put you down w/tentative +1.

I've always enjoyed A Tavola and it's been over a year since my last visit. Unfortunately, we're leaving town the next morning, so we won't be able to join you guys for this dinner.

    Have fun, though!

Just a bump up to let you know that I will be posting details regarding this meal within the next day or so. We definitely can get a fixed-price meal, which makes it easier I think for everyone. Details to come . . .

We have room for a couple more. . .

Posting back on details of the dinner. I went over the menu with Brad, the manager, and most of menu is based upon his suggestions. Everything will be served family-style; as I mentioned in a different thread, this is a very small restaurant with a kitchen that I guarantee is probably smaller than yours, so this facilitates serving food in a faster manner. Although I find the plating here to be quite nice, it just doesn't make sense for 14 or so people. Besides, we're LTHers and "wanna eat," so I hope you'll defer to my judgment in that respect. :)

Okay, so the menu is as follows, possibly subject to change/tweaking:

    To start:
Assortment of hot and cold antipasto, such as grilled mushrooms, mixed greens with pear and parmiggiano, and a selection of cured meats

    Second course:
Gnocchi with browned butter and sage
    Penne Bolognese

    Third course:
Marinated, grilled leg of lamb with rosemary potatoes and spinach
Braised beef short rib with saffron risotto

For three courses, the price is $47, exclusive of tax and tip. I know this was posted as a "GNR" dinner, but really it is less about that and more about just enjoying a meal with fellow food and drink lovers, and having fun.

    See you all there!

Mr. X and I noticed something missing in the menu. Will there be dessert?

Thanks for setting this up. I look forward to returning to a tavola after a long time away and Mr. X has never been. It will certainly be an enjoyable evening with everyong.

That's a good point. My thinking is that not everyone will want dessert. However, if there are some who want it, we could just order whatever desserts we wanted a la carte (outside the menu) and split it accordingly. Hope that works out okay!

I am going to have to reluctantly withdraw from the dinner. After calculating transportation and time, I would end up getting home well after midnight and that's just too late on a weeknight for me. Would have loved to go...have fun.
