The real-sugar Dr. Pepper has returned as well. It's not called Heritage Dr. Pepper this time -- just Dr. Pepper. The label design is from the '70s, complete with the "I'm a Pepper" logo.

Taste-wise, this version is better than the last. It's not as overtly sweet, and the flavors seem more in line with what I remember from my youth.
Where have you seen 'em, for those of us who are willing to roadtrip for sugar Dr Pepper?

I saw the real-sugar Dr. Pepper today at a Strack & Van Til in Munster, Indiana. They also had the Pepsi and Mountain Dew Throwback as well. All three were available in 12-packs of cans, and individual 20oz bottles.

This link should provide all the info you need:

Thanks. I just wanted to make sure it again was only being distributed in areas where the local Pepsi bottler also produces Dr. Pepper (which means the vast majority of the Chicago area is out of luck)

Any idea if all of the Strack's stores are carrying it, or if it was only the Munster location? I spotted the sugar Pepsi and Mountain Dew at the Target in St. John earlier this week, but alas no Dr. Pepper.

I've had all the returned real-sugar sodas now, and all are delicious. The Dr. Pepper is noticeably less sweet, and more flavorful. The Pepsi is nice, and the Mountain Dew is outstanding. Sadly, Throwback Mountain Dew upsets my stomach fiercely, a thing the fake stuff never has done.

It's not Throwback, but Mexican Pepsi made with cane sugar is available at Harvestime for 99 cents/bottle.

I bought some real sugar Sierra Mist Cranberry Splash at CVS the other day. It is pretty tasty. No weird aftertaste/mouthfeel. It is nice to see a "non-throwback" soda made with real sugar.

My memory is that it was very widely available at grocery stores, target, etc in Indiana when it was in season.

Dominick's at Division & Clybourn had Throwback Mt. Dew & Pepsi, I didn't look for Heritage Dr. Pepper. Now that would be the good stuff.

    They won't have it..

In areas where the local Pepsi distributor also distributes Dr. Pepper, Heritage Dr. Pepper is rolled out to be co-marketed with the Throwbacks. In areas where the local Coke distributor distributes Dr. Pepper, they got retro styled "Dr. Pepper Made with Real Sugar" for the 125th anniversary this summer.

Sadly, Dr. Pepper is distributed by Dr. Pepper Snapple Group in the Chicago area, so we don't get either of them :(

Yup. Saw it today in a couple different stores (Walt's in Dyer, Ultra in Highland). Same packaging as last year, and stocked next to the regular DrPepper.

Thanks to Mark's eagle eyes, I'm now in possession of 120 cans of Dr. Pepper made with real sugar. Price compared at ultra/strack and van til/jewel and all were ridiculously steep: $4.89/12 at Jewel, $3.67/12 at ultra/strack. But so worth it.

Unrelated, had a great lunch at Schoop's in Munster. Really just the finest example of lacy edges on a burger I've seen in a long while.

For the forumites who are fans of Mexican Pepsi:
Butera in Norridge presently has an abundant supply of it at a ridiculously cheap price.

Located near the front door, it is 3 bottles for $ 1.29--- $ 10.32 case of 24.

Pepsi has announced that Pepsi Throwback and Mountain Dew Throwback will now be available permanently. Not sure what this means for Heritage/Anniversary Dr Pepper.

I'm very curious to see whether Coca Cola sees the writing on the wall and starts testing their own "retro" variants.

One thing to note: Pepsi and Dr Pepper's retro varieties are using inverted sugar syrup. I think, but am not sure, that this process is different from how Dublin/Temple Dr. Pepper is made. Anyone know any more?

Mexi-Coke is pretty ubiquitous now, so it's effectively "throwback" Coke.

Right, but 3x-4x more expensive than pepsi throwback.

This was great news to me, nowdays I am finding 12 packs of each are typically available at most grocery stores I go to. What I am really happy to see is the 20 oz. bottles of the throwback brands more and more available at gas stations and convenience stores.
