Walking down Broadway over the weekend, we noticed that Adria Mare (formerly Sheher Taverna) is shuttered. A little investigation (we have great connections in the little birdie world) disclosed that a Thai restaurant is going in there (northeast corner of Broadway and Balmoral). Our little birdies also told us, long ago, that a white tablecloth Chinese restaurant is scheduled to open on the opposite (southeast) corner--though, truth be told, the latter has apparently been on hold for many, many months. The exterior is complete, the interior has had more than enough time to be completed several times over, but something is delaying the opening (our birdies are investigating). I'll try to post something when I see the new place open (or if the birdies should report more information).

Do your little birdies know what the couple who created Adria Mare are going to do next? It's a shame ... they knew what they were doing, food-wise, and I don't know any other spots for Croatian seafood now.

Little birdie flash: Former owner (husband) of Adria Mare was seen walking in the 'hood with his chef (a Mexican gentleman). The owners remain in the neighborhood. Sadly, the birdies were late for an appointment and had no chance to eavesdrop on the conversation or determine whether a new restaurant is likely.

That spot has a t-shirt (?) in the window of the door that says something like "Writer's Corner" and times open.

And outside today, there was a sandwich board that said they were open for breakfast and lunch. It was written in magic marker on butcher paper.

Adria Mare's awning is still up.

    Very, very weird.
