Oysters Rock: Sabatino’s

The oysters Rockefeller at Sabatino’s are excellent. The bivalve slightly baked, the oyster elevated, giving back oceanic goodness, mediated by a slight touch of bacon and layers of spinach, the leaves yielding to the tongue’s slight pressure.



The Wife judged these the best oysters Rock ever, and she might be right. I can’t recall ever having any so fresh, so unencumbered by sauce, which was just white, not heavy in any sense, and without much cheese, letting the depth of the sea creature come through, tanged and enhanced.

Wow, those look terrific! I've had the Sabatino's baked clams, but never oysters Rock, which are now a must-have for my next venture into Old School Italian American territory.

Ah, perfect example of what makes this place great. Reminds us why many seemingly now-tired classics were popular in the first place. Good ingredients and a (relatively) light hand in the kitchen.

Had the Oysters Rockefeller last night and they were as advertised. Amongst the best I've ever had including bastions in New Orleans. Thanks for pointing this out. Cheap lobseter night wasn't bad either. Sort or ordered a seafood melange, the oysters, lobster tail and Shrimp DeJonghe. Only the shrimp disappointed. It was sort of an old-school order. Oh, well, all and all Sabatino's performed well as usual.

We also were at Sabatino's last night (the palce was packed) and enjoyed the Oysters Rockfeller. They were monstrously sized and perfectly prepared with chopped spinach and a creamy sauce with just a hint of spice.

Some at our table had lobster, I enjoyed the Veal Braciole and one had spaghetti with meat sauce which was just what she wanted. Even the minestrone has gotten better (I ordered it for my daughter) Thick, lots of veggies, beans and noodles.

I had a couple of meals there where it wasn't bad, but it wasn't as good as it had been. The food last night was outstanding, and the service was good considering how packed they were.

Has anyone been to Sabatino's lately and had the Oysters Rockefeller? The photo looks incredible, but I'm afraid something might have changed over the several years since the last post.

I haven't been there in years, but I have a feeling that not a lot changes at Sabatino's over the years.

Nothing changes at Sabatino's. At least not that I've ever noticed.

I've had the Rockefellers, and they're a very tasty rendition. The oysters were plump and juicy despite being cooked. The topping was tasty, although not as complex in flavor ans many other versions.

I enjoyed them so much I even considered getting a double order as a main course.

Was there 3 or 4 months ago and the Rocks were as good as usual, IMO.
