Last night I met with family to go to Mookie's restaurant. Its been known as many things in the past, most memorable of which was Snug Harbor. It has since been redone with what I describe as an Italian/ Cheers / Incognito type of place. Dinner was the Tuesday / Thursday-Night special; All you can eat BBQ ribs.

I will testify that the ribs are excellent here! The meat is so tender that it will fall off the bone. It was so tender that I literally ate the ribs with a fork and a knife. The ribs were served with fresh coleslaw and corn-on-the-cob. On top of that I had lobster bisque soup, and a long island ice tea. While both the soup and the long island ice tea were good, I will admit to having better.

Beyond that, the food was a knockout in quality. I liked it a lot and recommend it to everyone.

Here is a website for Mookie's

Oh...I had leftovers too, I gave a little to sailordragonball (who I work with) I Will only say that the food was good fresh. I make no claims as to leftovers being as good :D

Isn't there a no-flame rule on this site?

What do you mean? A no-flame rule on the site.

    HI,

There are at least two schools on this board for ribs preferences: fall off the bone or chew off the bone at polar opposites. It is like religion and politics, strong arguments supporting each preference though nobody will change their minds.

To bring you up to speed, you might want to read this post and follow on conversation.

I believe, though I could and often am wrong, JeffB was being a little tongue-in-cheek. Whereas flaming would intentionally disparage an individual or establishment, your description of the ribs only will lead to many individuals on LTH to never order them.

It sounds like the ribs served at Mookie's are of the 'Meat Jello' variety.

    To all:

Jeff gave me some this morning as "breakfast" and I was amazed how good they were ... they were of the "meat-Jello" kind ...

... good flavor though, it would have been better if I didn't have to nuke it.

Ok I read the post and I almost completely understand the the concept.

In one way, I like both chew meat and meat jello, but it depends on the place. I have no problem with the chew meat at places like Famous Dave's. But at places like this were it looks like the dress code is "business casual" or better, and everyone looks nice (not that you couldn't look nice in jeans and a t-shirt), plus with a menu thats a little pricy, I can expect to some degree that the "meat jello" would be better. I personally don't like to get BBQ sauce on a nice shirt, and then try to treat the stain with club soda at the restaurant.

Mookies is closed as of a couple of months ago. Word in town is that Fred Hoffman bought the property and is turning into a Dick's Roadhouse in 2008.
