Kosher Mini Hotdogs

Anyone know a source for about 5 lbs of kosher-style mini hotdogs? I need them for a party. Hillshire Farms smokey links seem to be all I can find these days, and they just won't do (a mix of beef, pork and turkey according to the label, and just don't taste right).

Previous years we've bought from Best's Kosher Outlets, first in Morton Grove, then Highland Park, but they're gone.

I've had the same problem. Sometimes Dominick's and Jewel have them, sometimes they don't. Treasure Island usually carries them also. I bought them last in May at one of those 3 stores, but I can't remember which one. Also, if you're close to Sunset Foods in NBK, maybe you should try calling them too.

I would suggest checking the Jewel on Howard at Kedzie. They have an extraordinary kosher section, including quite a few kosher sausage products that are hard to find.

Try the Hungarian Kosher on North Clark around Lunt I think or New York Kosher on Devon.

The Best Kosher Foods outlet in Highland Park closed suddenly many months ago.

Since the site still lists the Highland Park outlet, I'd call to confirm before making a trip.

If that doesn't work, the site lists many other Kosher food stores. Call around and you should find something. Good luck.

If all else fails, find a Kosher butcher. It'll be a bit expensive, but you'll get what you want. There are a lot in the Northern burbs.

Haven't had a chance to look yet, I'm stuck in New Jersey this week.
Some time this weekend I'm going shopping for our party.

If I can find the mini hotdogs and chinese black vinegar without having to drive 75 miles round trip, I'm probably ahead of the game.

There is a Best Kosher Outlet on Pershing (39th) and Morgan. I don't know if they carry them for sure, but it seems likely.

Found two brands of mini kosher franks at Sunset in Northbrook (when did they move to the other side of the shopping center?) - Hebrew National and Vienna (they had the Best's Bagel Dogs, but that's not what I want).

They also had chinese black vinegar (listed as "sweetened").
It's for a Ming Tsai recipe of proscuitto/asian pear maki (uses both black and balsamic). I'm thinking of a platter with both the pear and asparagus inside different rolls of prosciutto.

Those I haven't tried, but I've not been happy with Bagel Dogs of any variety: too much dough, too tough-textured.
I've been using Pillsbury Crescent Rolls for years. You get about 12 dogs to the doubled-triangle (maybe it's 9, maybe it's only 6, I don't remember how we cut it up), with a delicate texture and wonderfully greasy mouthfeel.

Otherwise, I'll never touch dough-in-a-tube products. But so long as I'm already using meat-in-a-tube, this seems OK.

The Treasure Island on Clybourn carries the Best-brand mini-bagel dogs. They had one bag in stock yesterday. $7.49 or $7.99 or something like that.

FYI: Peoria Packing on Lake has Vienna Beef mini dogs - a pack of about 30 goes for $3.99. Just in time for Holiday Parties!

Yup, it's that time of year again.
I just found mine at the Dominick's in Glenview at the south end of the Glen, at $4.99 per 12oz pack -- Peoria would have been significantly cheaper... but I'm only talking about a few bucks saved, would it be worth a trip? Maybe.

Romanian Kosher is on North Clark. Good call though, I bought mini kosher hot dogs, for pigs in a blanket, there a few months ago.

Bagel dogs can be found almost anywhere... finding kosher mini franks that aren't prewrapped is tougher. The combination of the mini dogs and prepackaged crescent roll dough is a bizarre kind of heavenly.
