I noticed a mention of LTH forum in this month's issue of "Conscious Choice" -- the author did a review on Schwa.

Tanya Fritz wrote:Just before Schwa opened last fall, I was following the discussion thread on a local online foodie forum, LTHForum.com, regarding the choice of name. The members quipped about suggestions on other new restaurant concepts including: “How about: Tapas Cedilla (ç). Or “Ampersand” (&)—An American Bistro. Or how about “Colon” (:)—A High Fiber Juice Bar?!”

However sarcastically the Chicago foodie community quipped about Schwa’s name, they got seriously humbled when Schwa opened their doors and awed diners. Food & Wine magazine went on to name Chef Michael Carlson one of its acclaimed “Best New Chefs 2006.” He and his talented team have played to a full house almost every night since.

Read them like bookends, because you have the complete story by reading both.

    Thanks Mike for mentioning LTH!

David Hammond's series "Beyond the Burrito" concludes in this week's reader with an entry on multiple regions.

I've compiled links to all six entries over here.

Nice work, David. It's quite a compendium.

Agreed, Hammond's 6-part Beyond the Burrito series is quite a piece of work, as is Hammond himself. ;)

Hungry Magazine, founded by an LTH member and for which a number of LTH members write -- including me -- has been nomiated for "Best Group Food Blog" for the Well Fed Network's food blog awards.

If you're so inclined, and if you don't see that a good friend has also been nominated, any time between now and midnight on Jan. 9, you can follow the link on the front page (under "News") to the Well Fed Network's voting site and show your support the local Chicago-based entry in the race.

Thanks in advance for any votes. We really want to be famous. :)

It is an excellent story... but I noticed something else interesting in the Reader this week. The restaurant capsule reviews reflect a complete absence of LTHers (as best I know) for the first time in a while.

Hmm, the theme is vegetarian and vegan-friendly... could that have anything to do with it?

    LTH,

Interesting Chicago Reader blog entry by Mike Sula on Malabar Catering. Seems Malabar is leaving Montrose Ave for Glenview.

Malabar was the long ago impetus for a c-h Keralan dinner at Mike G's house.

    Hi,

Interesting choice in going to Glenview. The Indian cooking school lady who occasionally posts on Events is also from Glenview. Is it a locus for the Indian community?

I hadn't observed any Indian restaurants there, though I guess they may be on the cusp?

    Regards,

a certain three initialed guy gave me some more info on malabar's move, they are also planning on opening a restaurant on devon. The address in Glenview is to be 911 Greenwood. They will be there starting next week-same take-out set-up, but the restaurant won't be open for another 2 months.

I also remember speaking to folks at the maveli grocery store on devon, which specializes in keralan food as well, they had hoped to open a restuarant as well, but I haven't heard more on this front
