Extreme blending

Pretty wild -- but it gets the point across.

I suggested a couple of months back, via their online form, that the ultimate show of blender superiority would be to blend a competitor's blender.

Sadly, they have yet to realize the genius of this idea.

It makes my vintage Osterizer look like an old man. I guess if carrot juice was my desired morning drink, then this is the blender to get or at least consider.

I have a Blendtec Smoother (TM) in my lab that I use for testing smoothie products. Cost my company about $1,000 but worth every penny!

The whole idea of pushing an appliance to its limit reminds me of a recent conversation Cookie and I had while installing our new under-sink garbage disposal.

Cookie (while reading the booklet): "It says you can grind up bones in there."

Me: "Yeah? Well..don't"

Cookie: "Why not? It says you can do it."

Me: "Just because they say you can, doesn't mean you should."

I completely understand your sentiments.

I have a friend who lives in a 10-year-old house who disposes of thick watermelon rinds down her kitchen disposer. I am in shock at her confidence.

I live in a 101 year old house with original plumbing. I keep a canister next to the sink to pick up vegetable scraps for mulching. The disposal is simply used to clear the little things that fall in there. Once when I wasn't around, my family shoved skins from 10 pounds of potatoes down the disposal. The result was an emergency call to the plumber on Thanksgiving day.

We're verging off the original topic pretty strongly, but I wanted to chime in on my recent kitchen installation:

The plumber we had said he only sees disposals in about 50% of the kitchens, including high-end ones. He doesn't use one, saying they lead to trouble with pipes.

That being said, the Insinkerator Evolution one we have is quieter than my fridge (at least with only water running through it), and its marketing material practically implies I could put whole giraffe carcasses down it if I could fit it into the sink drain. On the other hand, because of cabinet space and plumbing position, the disposal is on the sink-drainer side of my sink, and is pretty useless most of the time.

I can't believe that the dude isn't wearing safety goggles !



edit: he is on some (tiliapia) but not on others (golf balls).

Inhaling the fumes after blending an iPod or a Cellphone probably can't be good for ya!

I was all keen on the idea of getting a Blendtec blender just based on their site - until i saw the eye-watering pricetag of $399 for a "basic" home model!
