We're verging off the original topic pretty strongly, but I wanted to chime in on my recent kitchen installation:
The plumber we had said he only sees disposals in about 50% of the kitchens, including high-end ones. He doesn't use one, saying they lead to trouble with pipes.
That being said, the Insinkerator Evolution one we have is quieter than my fridge (at least with only water running through it), and its marketing material practically implies I could put whole giraffe carcasses down it if I could fit it into the sink drain. On the other hand, because of cabinet space and plumbing position, the disposal is on the sink-drainer side of my sink, and is pretty useless most of the time.
What is patriotism, but the love of good things we ate in our childhood?
