I passed this restaurant just east of Kedzie on Lawrence, I believe, though perhaps it was a different cross street. Does anyone have any opinions? If it's been written about before I apologize.

You have the right intersection. Northeast corner of Kedzie and Lawrence. The restaurant shares a building with a fruit market of the same name. I haven't eaten at the restaurant but was very unimpressed with the store compared to others nearby. The restaurant went way down our priority list after one visit to the store.

I've eaten there once. I was pretty satisfied with my breaded steak torta. I can't remember what my girlfriend ate or if we had anything else, but the torta definitely sticks out. The breaded steak, I'm sure, comes directly from the butcher in the grocery store, so it's fresh and has a somewhat unique crustier breading than most milanesa I've come across in other Mexican places.

I agree the grocery store is somewhat limited--as is Andy's down the street (for different reasons), but I think the meat department is good and some of the bakery items are worthwhile but nothing spectacular--pretty standard Mexican bakery items.

I went to Lindo Michoacan last night to get a vegetarian burrito to go. One table was occupied by a couple cops that had parked out front in the bus stop zone and there were a couple other tables occupied by Mexicans.

I finally started the burrito about 20 minutes later after a distortedly long salivating drive. The first thing I noticed after I broke through the end of the burrito was thickly sliced red bell pepper poking out. I was stunned. Usually the taqueria vegetarian burrito is pretty standard with the only variations being whether or not they put avocado in it. This one didn't have avocado in it but I soon discovered yellow and green bell peppers, thinly sliced sauteed mushrooms (not like the thick ones at Irazu), and spinach, among the other usual suspects. This burrito must have been very hot when I got it because 20 minutes later it was still hot and the cheese had actually melted into a satisfying gooey mess. My only complaints are that the tortilla wasn't grilled as much as I normally like which got me worrying that it was going to break and the salsa they gave me wasn't really spicy at all. I'll have to see if they have some hotter salsa next time.

It's nice to see that the kitchen is taking full advantage of being connected to a grocery store by using lots of fresh produce. I saw some entrees go out that were presented really nice with grilled spring onions.

"was very unimpressed with the store compared to others nearby"

The above is now an old quote. I just want to add my up-to-date comment that, whether or not LM paled in '04, it does not now, in my opinion. I think the meat counter is particularly solid at LM, which might explain the crowds LM draws.

Completely agree, you can get a nice meal grabbing takeout prepared meat from the deli with the still warm tortillas delivered from el milagro

My wife and I got takeout from Lindo Michoacan recently, and after checking out their fairly extensive menu we were eagerly looking forward to our meal, but despite being not insanely busy, they managed to fuck up our order 3 different ways:

-instead of chicken enchiladas, they gave us beef
-we asked if their tortas contained sour cream or anything similar and were told 'no', but when we got home, the torta was slathered with sour cream
-we ordered 4 tacos, but were only given 3 (I'm not sure if we were charged for 3 or 4, though)

Anyway, the beef enchiladas were mediocre. The beef was chopped up in an unappetizing way and the entire platter was a giant mess. And the carne asada tacos were just sort of there, not awful but not something to write home about.

I did see their menu has a good breakfast selection so I do plan on going back for chilaquiles or huevos rancheros at some point, but I was really disappointed with my first visit and the number of things they did wrong.
