I have been told about 3 all you can eat sushi in Vegas. They are Todai, Makino, and Sushi Mon. Which one is the best?

First, you have to go into any of the sushi buffets with the belief that you are not going to get the finest food that you will ever get. Generally, the food at Todai and Mokino are fairly competent and that you will find some food that is really great and some food, well, is less so.

Now to your question. I think that Mokino would be a better choice. I have eaten at the Flamingo and Decatur Rds location and really enjoyed the foods. The crowds were NOT overwhelming. I thought that the presentation was really good and the food I tasted was very fresh.

I hit Todai in Schaumburg three times a year on average. I don't mind shelling out $28 as there is always enough good food to get my money's worth. However, there are things that they do not do as well as tghey should - i.e., the hot food table. Also, in general, (and this is counterintuitive), Todai is better on Tuesday and Wednesday nights when the crowds are a lot smaller and the staff can keep up with it.

    Funny you should mention Makino.

My pal Rick and his wife just met wife & myself at the Woodfield Todai in prep for our Vegas trip next weekend. Had a fine lunch, which at $16 is a slam dunk for value. We've always enjoyed Todai and make it a point to time-wise do lunch as soon as they open, most likely ensuring the freshest they have to offer. They even had a few hand rolls available.

But we were discussing Vegas restaurants to return to, or to try, and the Decatur Ave. Makino was definitely on the list, because we decided it's a lot more inventive, and quite a bit fresher than Todai.

In memoriam of the rapidly-disappearing Old Vegas, we're dining one night at Battista's Hole-In-The-Wall. Probably a gem back in the 1960's, it's a little tired now and so is Gordy the accordion player, but rumor has it that Harrah's has bought the whole works back there behind the Barbary Coast, so this might be our last visit there. C'est la vie.

Vital Info gave such a great description of Olives at The Bellagio that we're doing lunch on Friday, and we'll be doing a birthday dinner for the wife downtown at Hugo's Cellar at the 4 Queens, just a fine establishment that hasn't lost its sheen even though it's a bit forgotten.

Hopefully pics and reviews to follow.

It's not a buffet, but I've always liked the all you can eat deal at Sushi on Tropicana.

While not really a buffet, there are some great Japanese restaurants in Vegas that offer all-you-can-eat, made to order sushi. Top of my list is Koto, which is off the Strip, but worth the trek into Henderson.

Everything there is extremely fresh, lunch all you can eat is something like $25, but it's soooo worth it. It's clean, good and devoid of tourists.

But if you're sticking to your three options, I'd have to vote for the Makino on Decatur as well, though I haven't been there since discovering Koto.
