We look forward to welcoming a new restaurant in Andersonville/Edgewater. Walking down Broadway yesterday, I saw a new black awning with the name "Pepitone's" and the line, "Lunch Dinner Cocktails." The address is about 5432, the building immediately north of the old Zengeler Cleaners. Inside, it's the early stages of buildout. I presume it is not named after the Yankee first baseman, but hey...I'll try it out either way.

I also previously reported that a white tablecloth Chinese restaurant is scheduled to open on the southeast) corner of Broadway and Balmoral. It continues, many months later, to remain on hold. The exterior is long since complete and the interior, who knows? (although they've had more than enough time to complete it several times over). No one in the area knows what the delay is.

    GB,

Ciao. Yes, old Joe Pepitone, #25, the Yankee slugger in the last years of Mickey Mantle's career... the dismal CBS years... Anyway, the restaurant probably isn't related to the ball-player but it could be. Pepitone finished his career with the Cubs and so there is (or at least was) a connexion between him and the North Side.

According to these minutes of a meeting of the Edgewater Triangle Neighbors Association it is a "Joe" Pepitone's restaurant. That may be a mistake, or a different Joe Pepitone, but I did find some references to a restaurant Pepitone owned in Chicago in the 1970s. However, I am pretty sure that Joe Pepitone lives somewhere in NY.

Joe Pepitone had a bar on E. Division St back in the early 70's called '"Joe Pepitone's Thing".

Joe Pepitone (the ex-Cub/Yankee) lives in the Western Suburbs. He is a residential real estate broker and has a strong presence in the Downers Grove area.

On the subject of new restaurants (and this is off the topic of Pepitone's, which sort of just rolls off one's tongue!) there's a place being built out between a hip clothing store for men and the Einstein bagels up on Clark in Andersonville. I write this here hoping that the other worldly skills of Gypsy Boy to predict new restaurants might be utilized to discuss what's going in.

It's not the Pasticceria that's going up further down the road. So what is it going to be????

Inquiring minds want to .... eat.
