We had some good meals at Vien Dong. Here we lamented about it closing:

However, there is a shortage of neighborhood Indian. Hopefully, this will help with that.

    From Metromix:

    Radhuni Indian Kitchen

    3227 N. Clark St.
    773-404-5670

This Lakeview spot features the flavors of India, Pakistan and Bangladesh with curries, biryani rice dishes and a roster of items prepped in the clay tandoor oven (like papaya-rubbed, spice-marinated lamb and yogurt-and-spice marinated chicken). Other choices include samosas, puff pastries stuffed with potatoes and peas, spicy hot shrimp vindaloo, and naan bread stuffed with pistachio and almonds. So, what's a Radhuni? Owners tell us in Bangladesh, it's not only the name of a spice (and a popular spice brand); it's also the Bengali word for home cook. Target opening date: January 11

    Hours: 11 a.m.-11 p.m. Monday-Saturday; 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Sunday

    Fax: 773-404-5671

And a Metromix article that mentions Radhuni, amoung other new places.

    Greedy greedy! :)

A shortage of Indian at Clark and Belmont?

    Standard India Restaurant
    917 W Belmont Ave
    (773) 929-1123

    Moti Mahal
    1035 W Belmont Ave
    (773) 348-4392

    Star of India Restaurant
    3204 N Sheffield Ave
    (773) 525-2100

    (and not too much further...)
    Raj Darbar Indian Restaurant
    2660 N Halsted St
    (773) 348-1010

Honestly, is there a single area in Chicago (city limits) with more Indian options that isn't Devon?

You're right, I am greedy. A combination of wanting to see as much Indian as there is sushi, for example, and the only places that I love in the neighborhood for Indian are Raj Darbar (listed above) and Indian Grill (on Clark, south of Fullerton).

i believe moti mahal closed a year ago. frankly, i thought they were the weakest of the belmont indian bunch, so i'm not too sad about it (SIR would be my preferred choice for curry and naan in lakeview, though it pales in comparison with its devon brethern).

Yes, Moti closed awhile back - no real loss . . .and I haven't been back to Star in ages as our experiences have been just average at best. I agree with the Kithat that Raj Darbar has been my only "go to" Indian that's within walking distance.

    I look forward to this. . .

I ate lunch here yesterday. I opted for the buffet.

Indian food is, by no means, an area of expertise, so I can't really vouch for it authenticity or anything like that.

I will say that the food is tasty and had similar flavor profiles to Indian food I've had in the past.

Although, the food was much less spicy than Indian food I've had in the past. Also, the tandoori chicken on the buffet was pretty dry, but so has most tandoori chicken I've eaten off a buffet.

Next time I think I'd order off the menu for spicier flavors, maybe.

So after quite a long and unintentional hiatus, I'm back on the forum and glad to see that Radhuni has already been picked up on the LTH radar.

We live just up the street from this place, and although I was sad to see the Vietnamese place go (their fruit shakes are sorely missed :( ), Radhuni's has been a welcome addition, if not necessarily a much needed one.

Their appetizers can be hit or miss, but their main dishes are pretty solid. My favorite is the special biryani, which includes lamb, chicken, and baby shrimp. Also good are the paneer naan and mushroom masala(? - The exact name escapes me at the moment). I also like that they haven't (yet) toned down the spiciness of their dishes to Western standards.

Haven't tried their lunch buffet, but I think their a la carte dishes at least are definitely worth a try.

Looks like Radhuni is closed. So, between Raj Darbar and Indian Grill, where would you go in that general area for Indian? Anything else nearby worth checking out?
