Does anyone have suggestions as to where I can order live Crawfish? Cajunstore.com on the web seems good but I'm always looking for options. What's a good price per pound for these?
    Thanks all.

I've heard good things about ordering live crawfish from lacrawfish.com. Price per pound live, shipped, really depends on what kind of season they're having, what size you order (lacrawfish sell by count per lb., like shrimp)...whether it's a reasonable price is also relative to how bad you want 'em. I probably wouldn't pay more than $5/pound...anything more, and you might as well fly to Louisiana, drive to Abbeville, and eat local.

I've been known to miss the obvious before, but I've never seen live or even frozen (unless labeled under a different name) crawfish at Super H-Mart. I hope I'm wrong!

About ten years ago I bought four or five pounds from Davis Street Fishmarket. This was before their recent face lift -- do they even have the fish counter in the front any more? I had to haggle with them to get that much, because I think it was just part of what they would otherwise be serving in the restaurant and they needed to maintain some stock.

That was an incredible blowout, when we had a really nice back yard in the house we were renting some of, and a friend flew in from Seattle with two gigantic salmon from Pike Place Market as well. I have a great picture of those somewhere...

    EvilUs,

Shirley 'The Hammer's' preference for crawfish is Cajun Crawfish . When she lived in Chicago she would place a big order and others, including me, would piggyback. It's been a few years, but what I've had from Cajun Crawfish in the past has been excellent.

8-9 years ago we were in Houston visiting friends, I went to Fiesta Market for milk and bread and came home with a 40-lb sack of live crawfish for .79c per lb! We boiled them up and commenced to pinching tail and sucking head. :) 6 of us managed to make a serious dent in those bad boys and the few that remained we culled the tail meat for crawfish salad the next day.

As an aside, one of the funniest cartoons I've seen was two crawfish wearing human bibs, with a big bowl of people between them, asking each other if they sucked the heads. :)

    Enjoy,
    Gary
