So I was picking up some takeout this weekend from the Lao Sze Chuan outpost in Palatine, Szechuan House and had a few minutes to wait as my order got ready. I noticed a printed up chinese menu sitting nearby and was lucky enough to get a portion of the menu translated for me.

There are two sections of the menu, one with the breakfast menu items available from 11:30 - 3:00 and another of dinner items ( of special note here is the most expensive item, which has just about everything in it, pork leg with meatball, whole fried eggs, shrimp and squid and the spicy lamb casserole just above it)

on the breakfast menu are items such as sichuan cold noodle, spicy noodle with spinach and spicy sauce, steamed bread with lotus paste, spicy green bean jello (!?), and fried sweet potato cake

a better resolution image with my scribbled notes matched up to the items is available here

I haven't had a chance to try these items as yet, but since my son will be playing soccer out there regularly this winter hopefully I'll get some opportunities in the near future.

Any folks who are able to make out this menu more throroughly, I'd love to get real translations or if folks just want to try to use their McCawley skills (I was never able to do too much with that)

thanks to Gwiv for hosting the scans.

Is that the same Lao Szechuan that's in Chinatown? If so, do they serve the Hot Pots? And if so, cool, i'm right down the road!

It is indeed the same Lao Szechuan that is in Chinatown. I cant tell you if
they serve hotpots... but I *can* say that they serve a quite excellent
Lamb-with-Cumin, at least as good their sister-franchisee in Chinatown.
And a lot of the old standards (if not all) are on their menu.

I also think they may (or maybe used to) have some sort of lunch buffet
on weekdays? But I wouldnt swear to it.

I can attest to their hotpots. Excellent!

While I haven't been to Szechuan House in a few months, they've never (well not in the last 4 for 5 years) had a buffet before that. The lunch specials, however, are the best flavor to $ ratio in the NW burbs. I'm partial to the Mao Po Tofu lunch special.

To Zim, or any Chinese translator, was that menu a weekend only offer or any day? I'd love to finally order something off the "Chinese" menu there.

    Cynthia, here is the address:
    www.laoszechuan.com
    321 E Northwest Hwy
    Palatine, IL
    (847) 991-0888

It's in the stripmall w/Ace Hardware and Hobby Lobby, but closer to the Citibank end.

grant - Refresh my memory b/c I was young when the murders occurred. I thought the infamous Brown's Chicken was closer to Fortune Cookie and Eurofresh. Where was it?
