Cooking School in Southwest France

Last Fall we attended a cooking school in the Perigord. It was the experience of a lifetime that has had a profound effect on how I eat and cook. Reservations are now being taken for this summer. I have absolutely no financial interest in this, but just wanted to make this known in case anyone here has an interest in getting to know one of the most beautiful corners of the world and its awesome cuisine.

Visiting cookbook writers serve as the teachers, a different writer each week. My good friends and James Beard Award-winning writers, Cheryl & Bill Jamison, were the teachers for our week. Although they are renowned for their books on Southwestern American cooking, I have never met anyone as knowledgeable and as talented as they are regarding all kinds of cuisine.

The school is not just about the food - we enjoyed field trips to beautifully preserved villages such as Sarlat, the prehistoric cave paintings at Lescoux, churches, castles, museums, shopping, etc. But each day concluded with a sumptuous meal, either at a Michelin-starred restaurant or (and these were the best), dinner back at the school which we prepared ourselves under the guidance of our teachers prepared with ingredients we had collected during the day from open-air markets, mushroom farms, truffle farms, etc.

That sounds wonderful!! I've always wanted to do something like that, but alas, hubby has no interest in cooking.

In our class, there were four couples and in every case one of the spouses was not very interested in cooking. None the less, some of the very best dishes were cooked by the disinterested! And they all had a blast.

The only requirement is an interest in eating some of the best food on the planet.
