    HI,

Interestingly I found the last person who asked about this restaurant received no reply. I don't know much more, though they do have a website giving all indications they are open.

Hopefully someone can comment whether it was sold, though it may be you may have to check and advise us.

    Regards,

It is definitely open. (My boss went there last week, and said that it was very good.) He said that it has been sold, but I haven't been able to find confirmation of the sale anywhere online. I will not go back until they have new owners.

I have always avoided this place due to it having been owned by the people behind the Prime Table (formally of Rolling Meadows) which I always thought was garbage. In the same area as Chicago Prime is Mortons, and not too far away is Fleming's (Lincolnshire) which I thought was pretty comparable to a downtown steak house.

If you are going to take out clients though, I would recommend taking then to Nine (Chicago). While it may not be the best steak house, it is the glitziest. People usually come away pretty impressed by the meal and more so the scene.

    Was it me?

I asked about this one time and got maybe one or two reponses. I had received a gift certificate there. We ate there in June or July of this year.
Both my wife and I thought it was very good, although we are probably not as savvy as the foodie types that populate this board, but we are willing to learn. lol

I would put it on the level of Harry Carey and Ruth's Chris. My wife had the filet, which I tasted and was very good. I had the T-Bone which was excellent IMO. The sides are large enough for two. I think we had the spinach and shoestring pototoes.

One other idea, if you are going to the Schaumburg area.

How about Ted's Montana Grill? It's new, but I hear it's really good. Ted Turner is part owner and they serve Bison meats.

I went to one when I was in Colorado. Unless you have a hankering for Buffalo or you are in a town without a good steakhouse I would stay away. It is not a high-end steakhouse.

An update: Chicago Prime has closed and is being turned into a Rosebud. (I drive past it most days and they were installing the Rosebud signs late last week.) I have to think that this is somehow connected to the legal troubles of the previous owner.

We visited here last night after the movies and had a wonderful experience. The steaks are excellent, service is professional and unobtrusive and the dining area is inviting (the large backlit photograph of the Chicago skyline was cool; this is something that might be very cheesy if not properly executed, but the owners pulled it off).

We stared with a shrimp bisque - it was tasty but my wife would have preferred some chunks of shrimp. Our steaks were well-executed - my wife had the sliced sirloin with port wine reduction and a variety of baby potatoes (sweet potatoes, blue potatoes and (I believe) fingerlings) and I had the bone-in rib-eye with an au poive preparation. The creamed spinach was delicious - it was prepared with some anisette and featured a crusty topping. It was getting late so we had dessert to go, a generous slice of fine key lime pie.

We did have a glitch: My wife ordered a sidecar straight-up, but it came in a brandy snifter (rather than in a traditional cocktail glass) and was missing an ingredient (perhaps the Cointreau). The drink was replaced by a gin and tonic. We spoke at length with Andy-John Kalkounos the general manager/owner/host and he graciously "comped" us our dessert because he appreciated our feedback and was apologetic about my wife's cocktail.

    All-in-all a very positive experience.

We had another fine meal at Chicago Prime, our first trip back since our 2011 visit that I wrote about above. The Cajun-style scallops were good, with chunks of tasso giving the dish some bite. The house salads that came with our meal were standard fare. The wet-aged prime steaks were both excellent. My wife had the 6 oz. filet mignon with a maple horseradish topping and I had the 20 oz. bone-in ribeye with Cajun seasoning. While I am a dry aged steak aficionado, these steaks were tender, tasty and well-prepared. My ribeye was especially good - the steak had a deep, beefy flavor that contrasted nicely with the spiciness of the rub. The creamed spinach was finished in the oven and the vegetables retained a nice residual crunch. We finished with some excellent key lime pie.

Our server was both helpful and efficient. He actually lives not far from us in the city, and we chatted about other restaurants.

We will be back...and we won't wait another 3 years. :D
