If a tree falls in the forest...

I noticed some "auction today" signs outside Timber's Charhouse on Skokie Hwy. in Highland Park and sure enough a call there came back with a "this number has been disconnected..."

Just last week as my wife and I passed it we wondered how if we never ate there, none of our friends ever ate there and no one ever talked about eating there how it stayed in business for so long. I guess we'll never know now.

A poster alerted me a few weeks ago Timbers was closing as well as Mimosa in central Highland Park. Timbers I visited a few times over the years, though it never became a regular. I never went to Mimosa.

Hot Tamale's owner filed bankruptcy. A manager is attempting to re-open, which is supposed to happen any day.

Timbers was a mainstay during my years in Glencoe. I still remember the salad, an entire quarter of romaine, dressed and served lengthwise. At that time, it was an impressive presentation.

RIP; they beat the odds with a nice long run.

I am not surprised by this news. We met a couple there about a month ago on a Friday night and the place had about 7 or 8 other tables filled. Further, the whole place seemed as if it was falling apart, with peeling upholstery, tiny old fashioned TV's in the bar, and terrible service.

It is too bad though, the food was generally good with good prices. Plus, they had a mean onion loaf.

I'd noticed back on 12/29 that the parking lot at Timbers was completely empty at lunch time -- not a single car -- which seemed strange. Thanks for the confirmation. I used to enjoy their somewhat odd club sandwich on blackbread but it was hard for me to really get excited about the place. I hadn't been there in years. As posted above, they did have quite a long run, so congrats to them for that.
