Thanks for sharing this information. The ability to make my own pods will make the Senseo much more appealing.

And, just for good measure, apparently my loathing of preflavored coffees isn't a dealbreaker (or at least is outweighed by my big mouth!) as I, too, got an email with the "freebie" offer. Considering the Gevaila coffeemaker we "bought" cost $20, I'll take it!

That was fast - I got mine last night. It's certainly easy to use.

I probably won't use it for my morning coffee (I need it to make 10 oz, not . It's a cute novelty. I may give it to my mom along with a subscription to some sort of pod plan, if such exists.

One cool thing is that you can put two different pods in, so if you like flavored coffee but not TOO flavored you can put in a regular and a flavored pod together for a double cup.

Now I also wonder if the Douwe Egberts coffee they use in this is the European version or the American version...

Well, I did finally get an offer on the first questionaire I filled out (where I answered negatively about flavored coffee). It came about 2 weeks after the offer on the second questionaire, in which I said I was OK with flavored coffee. They must have ranked the applicants, then given out the offers in that order.

I have been using mine for tea. It actually makes pretty good tea. I happened to have some pod shaped tea bags. I have also been using those square single herbal tea bags that have no string. For those, it works best if you brew two cups worth at once. Mint tea works especially well.

Well, I obviously answered all the survey questions correctly and was rewarded with a Senseo coffeemaker which arrived as an unexpected Christmas present.

I followed all the directions and proceeded to make myself a cup of coffee.
Here are the pluses of the machine:
Easy to use
Heats up quickly
Excellent crema

Unfortunately, the coffee lacked body and had a chemical flavor. I tried both the medium and dark roast pods.
Did anyone else have this experience? Any suggestions would be welcomed.

Well, the promo appears to be over, but the link in OP now forwards you to a $20 rebate offer. I have never been a big coffee drinker (and I have to dilute it in a lot of milk), but find myself a cup more and more in the mornings and end up paying $0.89 each for bulk Starbucks mocha frappacinos from Costco instead.

But my hesitation had been in the range of coffees available. If, like the printer ink-jet cartridges, there is a viable "fill your own" option such as the one linked a few posts above, then the Senseo becomes a good candidate for me.

After having given up on this (and not really caring), I received the offer for the $15 s/h deal just today, and I had signed up around the time this thread was started. I was looking to get a coffee machine anyways (mostly for guests), and I figure $15 is as inexpensive as it gets. Heck, maybe I'll even use it.

Looks like mine is in the hands of the Chicago USPS, so should be here soon.

I am actually really hoping this thing works fairly well. As my fiance is the only real coffee drinker in the house, would be nice to be able to get rid of the coffee maker and the burr grinder and replace it with this, allowing me to utilize the extra counter space for stuff I like

I too had given up on this offer, even though I signed up pretty early. I thought because I answered as a regular person (not as a book club) they'd blow me off but just today received an e-mail saying I can get this lovely Senseo kit. I bit....$15 isn't bad. Especially after seeing the information about making my own pods.

Let's see if it arrives in 4 to 6 weeks!

I too received the apology and then one day after receiving a Tassimo Braun machine, my Senseo came in the mail. I figured that because it took so long, I didn't qualify. Oh well, I'm sure my mom will put it to good use.

I thought it came with 2 bags of medium roast (10 pods each), which it did, but in addition I also got 2 bags of Dark Roast, 2 bags of Vanilla and 2 boxes of a sampler of types (8 pods each). $15 is a great deal for the machine, 76 pods and 2 tins to hold pods.

Wow, you got way more pods than I did! I got medium roast and vanilla flavored.

Yeah, the literature even said it was one Medium and one Vanilla. When I opened the box Ijust kept pulling bags out. Wonder if it is due to me answering the questions like I was the king of the book club world

Got mine yesterday. That's a frothy cuppa coffee, I tell you what. Anyone seen these pods at Costco or a similar spot?

I was at CostCo yesterday and looked quickly but didn't see anything for Senseo.

Seems best bet now is Amazon.com. You need to pony up for quantity but $14.99 for 4 packs, then get over $25 for free shipping. I just ordered 2 of the 4 packs for $30 shipped.

My finacee had grabbed some at Target or Dominick's and they were on sale 3 packs for $10, which works out about the same when tax is figured in.

I got my free maker just before Christmas, and I've been playing around with different brands of pods from CoffeeWiz.com. (They have a pod compatibility list that's been very helpful.)

So far I like the Wolfgang Puck much more than those that came with my Senseo, with the major caveat that I'm not really a coffee drinker and all of this coffee gets mixed with hot chocolate. (I didn't mention that in the survey!)

Must say, there are some definite negatives to this product - I feel a little bad dissing it after getting it for more than $40 off retail, but here goes:

The "two-cup" option (which is one normal cup of coffee; it takes 3 to fill one of my fiestaware cappucino cups) doesn't heat the water enough to get good extraction; you're better off doing 2 single servings. Also, the footprint of this one-cup-at-a-time machine is much larger than my 12-cup coffeemaker; not a good option if you don't have a lot of counter space.

It does make a frothy cup of coffee that has an espressolike quality to it; and if you're only making a cup for yourself it's better than trying to make a small amount in the regular maker. That being said, you're probably better off buying yourself an inexpensive espresso maker; they're around the same price, make the same amount of coffee better and don't need specialized coffee pods - which, at about $.30 per pod, make each of my cups of coffee cost about a dollar - for which you can get 10-20 cups from ground coffee. (According to my research online, a Starbucks tall coffee is $1.40)

They must be really backloged as I just received the $15 offer today. I bit so now let's see how long it takes to receive a coffee maker.

I can't speak to the plastic one, but I've had success making my own with a coffee filter using the method suggested here: Ineedcoffee.com I just used my standard coffee filter and cut off the excess - tamping the coffee down is crucial. It's not perfect, but it's better than nothing.

Those plastic pods strike me as too thick for the Senseo, but I'd be curious if anyone has tried them as well.

And if you really want to get super d-luxe there's this $70 pod maker at Skymall.
