As many of you know, Oasis Cafe, the excellent middle eastern lunch spot that used to be the the Jewelry Mall (21 North Wabash), was forced out during renovations by the landlord. Oasis cafe has reopend about a block south in a food court.
I finally tried the new place that recently opened in the old Oasis Cafe space. It's another Middle Eastern spot. The first couple of times I passed it I wouldn't stop in because, as a long an loyal Oasis Cafe customers, I felt like eating there would be cheating on my wife (I actually haven't cheated on my wife, so I'm not sure I should use the analogy). However, today I decided that the new owners should not be penalized for the landlord's conduct.
The menu has the typical stuff like shawarma kafta and falafel, which they'll serve on a plate, in a sandwhich, and interestingly, in a sub. They also have a biryani, a potato chop (potato patties stuffed with ground beef) and a chicken couscos. The space has been remodelled with an expanded kitchen. Two people were working there and working hard.
I can offer no real opinion yet. On first try, my lentil soup was good, my shawarama sandwhich not so great. I'll be back once or twice more, to see if I can find what the do well.
