I drove past Black Forest on Waukegan in Morton Grove this morning. There's a new sign next to the building announcing a forthcoming strip mall in that spot. I'll miss the butcher shop and its smoked pork chops, hams, and sausages.

    Hi,

Sadly, LAZ provided a warning of things to come in this post from November, 2005. I guess waiting on permits allowed them a little bit longer life than was initially thought.

Huh, maybe it's not a new sign and I just didn't read it closely before. The place certainly looks abandoned from the outside and I know the butcher shop had been stocking only the barest minimums. I didn't stop to check the door.

I'll swing by next time I'm in the neighborhood.

I haven't been there in a few years, but I'm still sad to learn that it's closed. I used to really enjoy the special game menues they had in each autumn. We can hope they open somewhere else -- and that something reasonable interesting occupies the new strip mall. But I'll still miss the old Black Forest.

I always loved going there for dinner plus entertainment. Anybody have any idea if the owner is planning on opening somewhere else? I talked to him quite a while ago about this but he said everywhere he's looked is too expensive.
