Does anyone have any suggestions for who to call to cater a lunch for 15-20? My parameters were "interesting food, but not too out there" (read: no Korean BBQ), nicer than chain sandwiches from Cornera & the like, but still self-serve.

I've searched the threads, figcatering is too nice, Italian beef isn't quite nice enough.

    Help?

It sounds like you want trays -- any lettuce entertain you place will provide catering for you. Most places in the Loop and River North will cater to any place in the Loop -- even the South Loop. Do some investigation on websites -- it's my experience that most restaurants will do catering for you if you just inquire about it and many have catering menus on their websites.

In terms of a business lunch -- check out the Goddess and the Grocer or Fox and Obel -- they have excellent food and great catering menus, and they're both posted on their respective websites.

    good luck!

I am not really sure what kind of food you're looking for, but I really enjoyed our catered lunches from Sun+Moon Catering. I love their green bean salad. It was the first to go at our luncheon. There is also Goodwin's. I have had their sandwich and wrap tray. For our last quarterly department lunch meeting we had Wishbone. It was a nice change of pace to sandwiches and such.

Star of Siam has always gone over well with my coworkers. You can order directly from the restaurant - I typically get multiple orders of items and the restaurant puts them in large catering pans.

How about Heaven on Seven? I had a dinner party for 16 last Saturday and hired them. For $15 pp (without tax, delivery or tip), we had salad, cornbread, red beans and rice, etouffee, BBQ shrimp, pasta remoulade with chicken and dessert bars. It was delicious and I highly recommend it. They have a lot of options and not all of them are cajun/creole food. And it was all set up buffet style.

You might want to check out Jerry's Sandwiches. They're very deli-oriented, but they have more interesting stuff than, say, a tray from Manny's.

I've never been disappointed with Jerry's.

We're in Hyde Park, but we have a lot of our functions catered by Fox & Obel. Good feedback from participants. Here's the site:

I think that our website may be misleading, while we do really great and interesting food I wouldn't say we're "too nice." We handle corporate drop-offs (in fact, we'll be updating our site soon to address them more specifically) and could do something a step above Italian Beef, but a couple steps below a gourmet dinner for four (and we would be more reasonable than Fox & Obel or Goddess)
