Sorry it's taken so long to post this, but I've been attempting to post a picture to no avail. It's a little embarassing that I can't figure out how to do it, but I will keep trying.
I ordered my mom's whipped cream birthday cake from Dinkel's and the family seemed to enjoy it. So, the big secret here is that I'm not really a cake person. Pie is my poison, so I admit I'm not the finest judge--but I won't let that stop me.
First, the cake looked lovely (wish I could insert picture here

). It was perfectly iced with sweet white whipped cream and I had ordered some sort of "nut crunch" topping that was on the side of the cake. It was sweet, but it wasn't just nuts. I don't want to ask too many questions here. For looks, it gets a 7.5 out of 10.
Cutting into the cake was a bit disappointing. The filling was sold to me as "fresh bananas and strawberries." There was one layer of fresh bananas ensconced in whipped cream--very nice. The strawberries, however, didn't taste very fresh and were in a heavy, syrup-y sauce. The cake was a little dry for my taste and didn't have the moist crumb I was expecting.
That said, my family gave numerous accolades for the cake and the birthday celebration was successful. If necessary, I'd try another bakery before I went back to Dinkel's, but it was certainly a more than acceptable cake.
Thanks for the recommendations, LTHers!
