Sorry for the last minute request. Just found out my sister and some friends from NYC are coming to town tonight. We'll go out with my daughters and boyfriends (2 just ate at Alinea), and my very very old parents (who think anything more than $8 is too fancy and expensive). Eclectic. We thought of Sabatino's, but have been there very recently. Other thoughts we've had are La Scarola and Greektown. Obviously my parents are at our mercy (we're driving and my sister's paying). But in order not to finish them off, any other suggestions for some great food, friendly ambiance, and not astronomical? (Preferably in Near North area)
Thank you to all LTHers. I think this is a wonderful site.

This sounds like a tailor-made call for Chicago's most flexible restaurant. Satisfies the culinary enthusiasts, the less adventurous, and those on a budget.

    Best,

Thank you very much for the idea. I must admit, Hashalom has been a favorite of ours for decades (with a break in there somewhere when they were closed for a while), good and plentiful food and great value. But, my sister demands the restaurant be between her and us (Omni hotel and Lakeview), and since majority will rule, we're looking for something maybe just a tad more upscale.

Ah, I didn't realize that the geographical restriction was such a strong demand.

    Idea #2:

Glen's Diner. Good food. A lot of options. Not expensive. Not far from Lakeview.

    Best,
    Michael

Glen's is okay, didn't wow me when I was there. My partner likes Erwin, but I'm thinking maybe West Town Tavern. But the main thing is THANK YOU.

West Town Tavern is a very nice choice. It remains one of my favorites in the city and I think everyone I've ever been there with has enjoyed it as well.

    Best,
