I've been meaning to post on the fun filled event Purple Asparagus held this past summer at Volo and, since the temperature is hovering at a balmy -5 degrees, today seemed the perfect opportunity.

Volo has a lovely backyard garden perfect for the Restaurants are for Everybody event.

Chef Stephen Dunne, went all out, duck w/maque choux, chicken thighs wrapped in caul fat and lightly smoked piggy on a stick, to name just a few of the offerings.

Quite OT, but I had deja vu looking at these photos. Erik, I believe I have seen you before, though we've not met. In fact, I think I've seen you every day this month - on my dog days calendar. You're the February poster dude, right? Great picture, and lovely little chihuaha, btw. Is he yours?

    Schatz,

We were at Volo last evening to present the LTHForum GNR and Erik, aka SushiGaijin, kindly posed for a picture with the Dog Days Calendar put out by the Anti-Cruelty Society.

hehehe, That's my dawg! I now have the (dubious) honor of people coming up to me on the street and saying "Did I see you in a calender at my vet in (insert generic suburb here)?" I don't know how I am going to live THAT one down!!

Seriously though, the photographer David Sutten is great - he obviously has a lifetime of experience working with people and their pets, and he donates a set of photos every year to raise money for local animal shelters. I have no idea why I was picked, although I'd imagine the mohawk, tattoos, and 4.5# dog make an amusing concept.

I'm really glad and somewhat relieved that everyone had a good time - we were happy to be able to play with our food a bit, but it is always a bit scary to loose 20 or 30 kids on a brick-paved back yard and try to serve them cuddly little ducks...

    Erik.

    Erik,

I am waiting for the day you pose for a family portrait with you and ALL your pets.
