I know that their chocolate's have been mentioned on two other threads: the one about the chocolate site and another seeking chocolates for wedding favors, but Coco Rouge is just too good to be relegated to a passing reference. I was introduced to their truffles when a client asked to have a chocolate tasting as the dessert of a wine tasting event that I catered. As we were also serving chocolate bars from Vosge, traditional chocolates from Piron and chocolate covered sunflower seeds from Translucent, I asked them to pick 2 truffles that they felt best reflected their style. They chose their raspberry truffle and their Cassius, which is filled with a rare vanilla and 18 year old scotch. Both were outstanding. We were then placed next to one another at a bridal event at which I got to enjoy more of their offerings, including a lavender truffle and a confection that looks like some sort of sea creature, which includes white chocolate, pistachio, jaggery (unrefined sugar from India) and is lightly coated with gold dust - it's heavenly.

Saturday, we popped in to give my son a treat - he loves the raspberry truffle and I tried the white chocolate covered white peach (very good in flavor, though the chocolate flaked off of the peach when eaten) and the toffee of pumpkinseeds, candied South African pepper and sweet roasted corn - absolutely addictive. I need to pop back in shortly and on my return I plan to have the chocolate bar with candied bacon. I'll report back.

The shop is funky, best described as Wonkaesque boudoir with lots of red and honeycombed floors. I love the place marker on the site, which is not yet up, that combines these elements http://www.cocorouge.com/

So all in all, quality product, funky shop and good people, well worth a visit.

    MAG,

Just had some of the toffee (punpkinseeds/candied South African pepper/sweet roasted corn) you gave me at the Volo GNR dinner and it's really quite good, thanks. Truth be told, I did not read the package, thought I was taking a bite of plain ol' toffee, but one crunch and I realized I was not in Kansas anymore.

I liked the toffee enough that I'm planing a trip to the Coco Rouge store, plus how can one resist a chocolate bar with candied bacon?

    Enjoy,
    Gary
