After a lovely experience having lunch with Sparky at H-Mart today, I decided to explore the snack aisle, as it's Sparky's turn to bring snack to kindergarten next week. (People in the food court are even nicer when you have a six-year-old with you; fellow customers freely offered suggestions and talked about what they were eating) Now, it's one thing for our family to dive headfirst into gastronomically murky areas, especially for prepackaged snacks - but, though I do try to be inventive for snack day, I don't want to impose this value on other people's kids.

That being said, I purchased a number of things to try, one of which looks promising: a very large bag of Silang Good Vita Natural Oat Crackers. I flagged down a nice H-Mart shopper and asked if they were crackers or cookies - and got a very kindly blank look. After thinking a moment, the gentleman responded "they're not like American crackers or cookies; I don't know how to tell you what they're like." From the label, they look a bit like Carr's biscuits. Anybody tried these or something similar? Eventually, curiousity will get the better of me and I'll just tear open the bag and have at it, but if I could send these to kindergarten, that would be cool....

Isn't that the fun of snack day?

    HI,

These seem very similar to the oat cakes from Walker's, whose origins I believe are Scottish. These crackers are very mild, a bit fibrous and oatmeal-ish tasting. I have a friend who adores them and cannot find them often in this country. When she goes golfing to Scotland comes home with several tins in her luggage.

I've tried them, found them as exciting as Carr's water crackers: not! They can be usefull as rafts with lots of savory stuff loaded on top directed to my mouth.

    Regards,

Well, my curiousity finally got the better of me, and I tore into the package this morning. To my delight, not only are they individually wrapped in pairs, but as I hoped, they are digestive biscuits (so, slightly sweet, slightly salty, grainy in texture - the kind of cookie you'd get on a short international flight) Perfect for snack day!

I also got some "wheat crackers" which looked to be an assortment of pizzelles. Indeed they were - but the ones I had hoped had pistachios had some kind of sea vegetable instead, and the pancake-looking ones had some kind of soybean. The others were pretty standard waffle-type cookies.
