a few years ago a chicago streets and san worker published a rather slender tome, unintentionally, explaining where our city workers disappear daily, for hours on end.

what he missed were many of the recommendations of LTHrs' here.

for any aspiring authors who travel the city streets during the daytime, can you put together a new list, with a little bit of history?

for starters... 'johnny's uncle jimmy' - located on central, just south of montrose.

ten slices of bacon, ordered with any dish... if you get there before 7am. jimmy's day cook takes over then, which won't get you more than the usual six.

seperate twelve inch diner plate, overlapped with a thick, many piece, skirt steak, accompanied by another plate of equal size with three eggs, (usually lousy) potatoes, and a medley of fried vegetables.

five egg (standard) omelettes... which oft leave the newbie patrons, pounding the counter, calling out for a styrofoam clamshell.

whatchya get here is a 'street an san' and pure chicago neighborhood eatery... ever since johnny got stanked by a stick up artist in the early seventies and his uncle jimmy took over.

this place may not be around for much longer, since c davis sold out their property rights to the corner of montrose and central.

    Jello,

Right, Johnny's Uncle Jim's is North of Montrose on Central, C. Davis South of Montrose on Central. I doubt C. Davis closing will affect Johnny's Uncle Jim's.

Far as the food, yes, absolutely, giant, huge, ridiculously large portions, working man's prices, but unless I was hungover, craving grease and starving, with little chance of eating for the next three days, Johnny's Uncle Jim's would not be high on my list of eateries.

Not that Johnny's Uncle Jim's is bad, just that it's more of a Big Cake for Big Cake sort of place. Two Way Grill, a mile or so East, does a better job with straight up diner food.

    Enjoy,
    Gary

I've toured Johnny's Uncle Jims a couple times for lunch. Merely serviceable but interesting in a socialogical way.
