I need to find a Bohemian, Polish, German, Russian, Jewish type restaurant around the Victory Gardens, 2433 N. Lincoln where I am going to see a play with a Russian woman who I have been tutoring in English. I'd like to find something casual and reasonable. Any suggestions?

    Bohemian-- all way out west.

Polish-- many around Belmont and Milwaukee. I guess there is also that new pierogi place around Belmont and Sheffield.

German-- go about 2 miles north on Lincoln and you'll be close to Resi's and Laschet's.

    Russian-- all way up north.

Jewish-- I guess you could just call Frances' Deli that, although it's basically a coffeeshop with just a few hints of any particular ethnicity. About 1/2 mile north on Clark.

Not much call for heavy Eastern European in Chad and Trixieville, in short. How far would you be willing/able to travel? Which of these seems promising enough to dive further into?

You could also try The Bagel, but like those already mentioned, that too is pretty deracinated. Frances' might be the better version of the two, though I've heard that Bagel does a few classics well, like boiled beef/chicekn in a pot. (But I wouldn't swear to it.)

erwin has a pretty large Jewish clientelle, and isn't too far from VG.
Their menu at first glance seems pretty pork heavy, but most of the dishes can be made without upon request (well, except for the pork chop...). In my experience, the servers are pretty used to that situation, and have been helpful.
They seem to do a decent pre-theatre crowd.
There was a recent thread about their menu, and if you do a search, some older threads should come up (i'd post the links, but I don't know how...)
The only caveat, I saw they were mentioned in some "best burger" thing, so it would be smart to make a reservation. Sort of similar to the "Check please" effect, they are probably busy with amateurs searching for the unattainable...
