Are there any good buffets in or around Evanston and the north side? Seafood Buffet in Evanston is OK, and New China Buffet near Western and Howard and Hong Kong Buffet on McCormick are...less good. I know Garden Buffet is great.

Is that about it? I'm curious about buffets of all sorts, actually, not just Asian ones.

There's not as many buffets as you would expect for a city that loves big portions.

However, Devon offers a host of Indian buffets, a few of which have been mentioned here:

My two favorites, Sher-a-Punjab and Arya Bhavan are both mentioned, though after reading it over, I'm resolving to check out Sizzle.

There's also a chain found in a few northern suburbs, Sweet Tomatoes, that offers a big salad bar and bunch of other standard food. It's better than Old Country, but not by leaps and bounds.

And, there's a Red Apple pretty far north on Milwaukee. It's always pretty standardly good Polish food. Be sure to plan for a nap afterwards.

    Talk of buffets, citywide:

With the size of some of the portions around Chicago, who needs to go to a buffet ... except that you DO get to try a lot of different foods.

Todai at Woodfield Mall is one that I would add. Not the greatest food but most of the food is pretty acceptable.

Actually, although I don't eat there very often, I have been fairly impressed with SOME of the Old Country Buffet locations. Even though some of their food is garbage, they do a great job with their vegetables, salad bar and some of their entrees. And it is one of the few places where you can get a salad and three different vegetables with your meal. The Crystal Lake location is very acceptable but the Carpentersville location serves some of the worst garbage.

Many restaurants serve a Sunday buffet and many of thwm are pretty darned good. Most of my suggestions are toward the Northwest suburbs.

Evanston Lunch Group had a very good buffet lunch at Mt. Everest for Nepalese-Indian food. (Sorry, can't find the link.)

That Little Mexican Cafe has (or used to, at least) a daily lunch buffet until 2. It's quite good, with a very nice selection of salads along with the usual proteins.

If you like dining around small screaming children throwing food on the floor, then by all means enjoy Sweet Tomatoes! Bring your own push broom to clear a path to your table.

I'll have to try to get there around then! Thanks.

Well, I figured there really weren't that many buffets but just thought I'd ask. I'll just have to wait until the next time I go to Vegas to buffet it up.

I should mention that it may be a bit more pricey than you expect ($10-11, as I recall, which includes a drink), but I always found the price more than fair for the quality of the food.
