Hello! Here’s a place for food related links that are, perhaps, not worth their own thread.

Please add links, comments, or ignore as desired within guidelines.

So ... what's the point of singling out these links as opposed to just posting links as we always have?

I think many links deserve their own thread and should be up for serious discussion. (Say the recent Sysco article). Others are one-offs -- look for your amusement and move on. Having these all in one place could also make it easier to delete the old.

I've found myself at times in the past defending links I've posted as if I authored them. I vet nothing in this thread. Let the reader beware.

Many people never click on links. Others will only click if you sell it with a witty summary, which takes more time. Link loathers stay away! This is meant to be quick, easy, and fun.

More to come, I think ...

Although Metafilter, at least, is interesting at least in part for the discussions and the personalities...

Still, as an occasional poster of linkish things that don't generate much discussion, I think there might be something to this idea.

Too bad phpBB doesn't have a del.icio.us plug-in. I use it for this kind of feature -- here are my food bookmarks...

Magnolia, a competitor to del.icio.us, does have specific group features. If any LTHers use it, let me know. I find it kind of slow and haven't seen any reason to prefer it to del.icio.us, but if I had a reason to try out its group features, that might be interesting, for a few minutes, at least...

Probably should have thought more about quality than quantity. Perhaps LinkTH is a better name? Suggestions for improvement and other lists encouraged.

    This story is incredible.

"We live in a world where we make choices every day and 'The Coke Side of Life' encourages people to make those choices positive ones," said Marc Mathieu, senior vice president for carbonated soft drink core brands, marketing, srategy and innovation. "This new campaign invites people to create their own positive reality, to be spontaneous, listen to their hearts and live in full color."

So, I decided to go ahead and create an LTHForum group over at Ma.gnolia

Frankly, it's still pretty clumsy to create bookmarks and assign them to groups, but if any folks here are interested in trying out this new technology and sharing interesting food links, check it out.

This is by no means intended to dissuade Ramon or anyone else from posting quick links here -- Ramon, maybe you should rename the thread to "lightning round" :) MetaLTH sounds too much like it belongs in Site Chat.

The StumbleUpon extension to Firefox does something similar ... kind of like "Feeling Lucky" in Google.

Does that mean give up or use the extension to cull links? Perhaps those apt to click on links already know how to pick out their own? Some of us don't even know what say RSS stands for.

I certainly don't think you should give up. If this experiment is working, rock on. I've seen some interesting things in your links.

If you were to use the StumbleUpon system (or Magnolia or del.icio.us), most LTH'rs wouldn't see that stuff, unless a critical mass of us started using one of those services.

Maybe we're cluttering your thread with meta-meta commentary. Me, I'm just curious about these various services and many of them are primarily interesting when other people you know use them.

(On the other hand, if you're doing this as much for yourself as anyone else, the browser plugins for all three of the aforementioned make it much easier to casually track links like this than coming to LTH, logging in, finding this thread, and making a post...)

Very cool. I can remember seeing a drawing of a sunfish in a Time/Life book when I was a kid, and I think they have a model of one at the Field Museum, but I had no idea they got so huge -- or that their brains were so small. Fascinating link. Thanks.

Stumble gives you a button to find a related page that's been well-reviewed by other Stumble users. If you like a site you're referred to, you can click on the "I Like It" button.

I saw one of these up close and personal during a dive off the coast of Palm Beach back in the 80's. It was an impressive sight! Somewhere I have some pictures I snapped, but it would take a major archaeological expedition to my basement to find them in a timely manner.
