I love Indian food and have a pretty good idea of which places I like best in Chicago. I also like Indian beer a lot.

Anbody know of a restaurant in Chicago that has Indian beer on draft? (Kingfisher or Taj Mahal are the most common bottles I see here.)

I've never looked for this anywhere in the US except Chicago, and I've never been to India, but I have seen various Indian beers on draft while in the UK.

Slight digression - I've also never seen any Thai beer on draft here either. Bottles are much more common in restaurants in Thailand, but some places there do have Singha, Chang, Leo, Tiger etc. on draft. I think the dominance of bottles in Thailand has something to do with the very hot climate. Maybe the same goes in India. But given all the worldly beer choices in places like Hopleaf and Map Room, one would think I could find and Indian draft option.

Out of curiosity, I checked the beer list for The Yard House in Glenview, which probably has the largest variety of draft beers in the area. No Indian or Thai beers. I'm guessing there's too little demand for a distributor to bring in a keg. Sorry.

This is an interesting question. I don't think I've ever seen an Indian, Thai, or even Chinese beer on tap in or around Chicago.

It's a shame because I generally like to drink beer with Indian or Thai food, and an cold draft of an appropriate beer would be a draw for me.

Next time I'm at a place like Tiffin (a restaurant that does a brisk bar service), I'm going to ask if there's any specific barrier to having a tap.

    Best,
    Michael

Stawski is the importer/distributor for all of the United Breweries brands (which bought up almost every major brewer in India), as well as Singha. According to their sale sheets, those beers are only available in bottles here.

BTW, Kingfisher is brewed in Saratoga Springs NY. UB entered into an agreement with Scottish and Newcastle for the manufacture and marketing of Kingfisher worldwide as an international brand like Foster's. The Kingfisher draft available in the UK may actually be brewed there.
