Can someone point me toward a good north shore source for a nice platter to be delivered to a shiva in H.P.? I was thinking smoked fish.

    Thanks.

Have you tried calling Sunset Foods? That's the kind of place that delivers and has high quality as well as high customer service. Their website (click on "specialty trays") shows a smoked fish tray, a lox tray, and various salmon and shrimp platters. They're EXACTLY what you need. You can do it all over the phone if you like.

    Sunset Foods
    1812 Green Bay Road
    Highland Park
    (847) 432-5500.

One other option (but I would still call Sunset first):

    Door County Fish and Deli
    2831 Dundee Road
    Northbrook
    847-559-9229

    Sorry for your loss...

    Another vote for Sunset.

Foodstuffs can probably do something for you too, and it will be nice but it will be more expensive.

    Peace to all concerned.

I'd point you to Kauffman's or Max & Bennie's for this. Trays such as you describe are their stock in trade. I know that Kauffman's will even take into account all dietary restrictions for Passover, if you ask them to. I'd guess, though I have no first hand knowledge, that Max & Bennie's would also.

During Passover, I'd be extra careful. Try Hungarian Kosher or The Kosher Gourmet in Skokie, or maybe The Kosher Korner located in Garden Fresh Market in Northbrook.

    Hi,

There is a rabbi supervised deli at:

    Jewel
    1600 Deerfield Rd,
    Highland Park, IL
    (847) 579-0872

    Shaevitz Kosher Meats & Deli
    712 Central Ave,
    Highland Park, IL
    (847) 432-8334
    kosherdelight.com

My friend who is Orthodox and a Rabbi's wife recommends the Jewel over Shaevitz. FYI - Immediately adjacent to Shaevitz is a Kosher fastfood place that she does not recommend.

    Regards,
    Cathy2
