It's not that there's a shortage of great food in Japan, but I actually enjoy some of McDonald's foreign items when I travel. I'm in Tokyo right now, and was very pleased to try the Ebi-Filet-O. It was a crispy shrimp patty with distinct, good sized pieces of shrimp, beautifully fried, and topped with some mayonnaise-based sauce. This was a pretty damn good sandwich, one I'd be thrilled to find elsewhere.
I'll add that the fries were excellent (not always the case these days) and they had a fried apple pie. While the crust on the fried apple pie was exactly as I remember it growing up, it didn't seem to have more than the smallest pinch of cinnamon. While I seem to recall more cinnamon flavor in the fried US versions, maybe that just didn't produce well in taste testings in Japan.
