as of next week, I will be a new resident of uptown, more specifically montrose and the lake. I live 3 blocks from taqueria puebla now and already am feeling chipotle withdrawl. i know that shan foods and tac quick are pretty close, any other worthy off the beaten path or interesting eats? basics like solid pizza or chinese? thanks y'all

I envy your proximity to Argyle. You've got fantastic Vietnamese right out your back door. Get to work.

i had to pick up my key yesterday and stopped for a bowl of duck pho that had coriander and cinnamon in it. and i was only in the area for 10 minutes. can't remember the name of the place though, in a strip mall with a parking lot.

    Not too far are:

    TAC Quick
    Pizza Rustica
    Caliente
    Rick's Cafe
    Taqueria Michoacan
    El Palmar
(all within a block of the Sheridan el stop)

    Then, for coffee:
    Dollop (Clarendon & Gordon)
Mocha Cafe (Sheridan btw Gordon & Buena)

Mr. Salsa is popular, but I've never been there (Montrose, just west of Broadway/Sheridan)
Tweet (Sheridan, just north of Argyle)
Riques (Sheridan, just north of Argyle)

Unique So Chique (Wilson, just west of Magnolia)
Magnolia Cafe (Wilson, just east of Magnolia)
Marigold (Broadway, just north of Lawrence)

There's Urban Tea Lounge, which I've heard good things about, but never been to. Apparently up for sale, so get there while you can (Montrose, around Hazel).

Those are the places that come to mind immediately.

Officials in Uptown want the city to allot space for food trucks in its streetscaping plans for the neighborhood's entertainment district.

A $6 million streetscape project focused on the area around Broadway and Lawrence Avenue would begin in 2015 and build a plaza outside the Riviera Theatre called Racine Plaza. The Chicago Department of Transportation plan would also give nearby North Clifton Avenue a European-style makeover and build "Clifton Plaza" there.

The junkies and ladyboys are gonna love it! One of my favorite (likely the favorite) neighborhoods in Chicago and walking distance from home. Love the idea of a "rebirth" of an entertainment district that never went away, but sort of worry about the essence of that corner changing for the worse and Disneyfication along the lines of Hollywood Blvd. or Chelsea. Indeed, as I just observed from the street in NY, the Chelsea Hotel of dead poets and rockstars is about to become some kind of hipster lodging/club experience. Better than the wrecking ball, I guess.

Tik Tok Falafel on Wilson - seriously some of the best mediterranean/middle eastern I've had in Chicago at least the platter stuff. I'll admit I've only been there 3 times, though. And yeah, of course you're near Argyle for Vietnamese and some Chinese.
